Tarpon Fishing

We Specialize in - Tarpon Fishing. .. The tarpon is one of the most acrobatic and spectacular of all the gamefish. They range from 75 to 1651bs. -the average size is around 100 Ibs. They jump 6 to 8 feet into the air after being hooked and many times during the fight.

The tarpon fishing grounds are only 4 to 5 minutes from the dock, therefore you have more fishing time. We fish a minimum of 4 hours, usually more, twice a day, at dawn and dusk. We use live bait, very light tackle, mostly 20 Ib. You do not need a fishing license and everything is provided except food and drinks.

You can't imagine the thrill and excitement of tarpon fishing unless you have had the experience. The feeling is unbelievable from beginning to end, the sheer pleasure of catching and releasing this highly regarded gamefish. Picture yourself sitting in your fighting chair enjoying the beautiful scenery and watching tarpon roll everywhere on the surface. Suddenly you feel your mullet wiggling excessively, which is an indication that a tarpon is lurking and about to swallow your bait. Your heart starts to pound when you feel pressure on your rod as the tarpon strikes your bait and the water explodes. revealing a huge silver king jumping into the air right in front of you!

You then embark on a WILD and EXCITING chase, encountering a few obstacles along the way -possibly a huge hammerhead shark who wants your tarpon for dinner. Your Captain will then yell "reel fast" and maneuver the boat to try and keep the shark from your fish. After many more jumps, along with the expert coaching from the Captain, your prize tarpon is brought alongside the boat for pictures. You feel great elation having succeeded in winning the fight!

Deep Sea

You can either fish the reef, wrecks, gulfstream or bay on the offshore fishing boat. We'll fish the ocean or gulf whichever you prefer. An example of what we catch on the oceanside is: grouper, mutton snapper, yellowtail, permit, kingfish, amber- jack, mackerel, sailfish, dolphin, etc. Of course we catch barracudas and sharks as well, if that is your desire. In the gulf, we catch snappers, groupers, cobia, sharks, spanish mackerel, etc.

The reef is only 5 miles from shore and the gulfstream just a little further out, so you don't spend hours running to the fishing grounds. All bait, tackle, ice, etc. is provided -all you need to bring are your beverages and food.

The "Rode Runner" Sportfishing Team is dedicated to showing our customers a great time catching fish...so if you fish with us, you'll know what we mean.
